For steps and walkways used with footwear, compare NST-20 non-skid tape rolls with pre-cut black safety strips. Start with the surface, water exposure, and pedestrian use. The coarse NST-20 roll product is not suitable for bare feet, submersion, or underwater application.
Rolls or pre-cut strips?
- Rolls: useful when you need to choose the length for a particular layout. The NST-20 listing specifies a 60-foot roll, a coarse 60-grit surface, acrylic adhesive, and 32 mil total thickness.
- Pre-cut strips: a ready-cut format for selected step and surface areas. Confirm the selected dimensions and product-specific requirements before ordering; do not assume every roll specification also applies to the strips.
Check the installation area
- Identify the surface material, finish, condition, and any existing coating.
- Confirm that the area can be cleaned and dried before application.
- Assess rain, standing water, cleaning chemicals, and whether water could reach under the tape edges.
- Check whether users wear shoes or walk barefoot.
- Trial adhesion on the actual surface and follow the product’s installation guidance.
Can I use it in a pool or waterpark?
The NST-20 roll listing excludes submersion and underwater application, and its coarse surface is unsuitable for bare feet. A general reference to pool areas does not establish suitability for a wet barefoot walkway. Ask for a product specifically matched to those conditions.
Does non-skid tape guarantee that nobody will slip?
No. Suitability, surface preparation, wear, contamination, and maintenance all matter. Inspect for lifting edges, damage, or worn traction and address the condition of the walking surface itself.
Which color should I choose?
Choose from the current product options for the visibility your application requires. A bright color does not by itself establish that a tape is reflective or glow-in-the-dark.
